THE WHEEL SPOTLIGHT| FINN PETERS| MUSIC OF THE MIND

The Wheel Consortium invites you to what is looking to be an exciting night of ground breaking music.

This Friday 18 February 2011, friend of The Wheel, Finn Peters will be performing Music of The Mind, a project combining performance theatre, scientific experimentation & stellar musicianship at The Vortex Jazz Club in Dalston.

Finn Peters – Music of the Mind

Music Of The Mind is a truly unique project, combining performance theatre and scientific experimentation utilising pioneering state-of-the-art ‘brain-computer interface’ technology for this mind-blowing event!

The brain emits tiny electrical signals with every thought or mental process we have, and the specially designed headsets worn by the players in Finn Peters group can read these signals and translate them into musical tones via a computer. This unbelievable technology allows the computer to translate the musician’s brainwaves into the sounds and tones to create the actual music they are thinking of.

This live band is well known for their innovative approach to music so they are the obvious choice of musicians to be included in the line up for this performance.

Finn Peters (flute, saxophones), Matthew Yee King (Supercollider, Neurosky), Tom Skinner (drums, electronics), Dave Price (percussion) and Oren Marshall (tuba).

Music of the Mind falls somewhere between Kraftwerk and Sun Ra. The compositional approach comes directly out of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and is reminiscent of 60s sci-fi funk and exotica.

Friday 18 | 8.30pm | £10 | Book online

The Vortex Jazz Club, 11 Gillett Square, London N16 8AZ | 020 7254 4097

THE WHEEL SPOTLIGHT| BOOKSLAM

Book Slam is London’s first/ best/ only literary nightclub, which features all the top writers, the finest live music and a semi-professional Serbian DJ. Our guests have included the likes of Hanif Kureishi, Dave Eggers, Adele, Nick Hornby, Kate Nash and many more.

Book Slam is the brainchild of superstar musical maverick, Ben Watt, and author, Patrick Neate. Ben has long since moved on to pastures new, but Patrick still likes to think he’s in charge. However, most of the real work’s done by experienced promoter, producer and pretty boy, Elliott Jack (everyone loves Elliott. Really they do), and Canongate’s very own Head of Publicity,Angela Robertson (whom Patrick first met at a drum ‘n’ bass gig in Tokyo in 1997. Strange but true).

Book Slam usually (but not always) takes place on the last Thursday of every month. We would encourage all literature and music lovers in London to attend the next event. Further details can be found below.
